Most women have some asymmetry of the breast. For some, there is a significant difference in size that may even be noticeable in clothes. If you are concerned with this issue, there are procedures available. Breast implants, breast reduction, and breast lift, or a combination of these procedures, can improve this concern.

TESTIMONIAL: There are no words to express my gratitude to Dr. Basner. I have struggled with being self conscious about my breast asymmetry since I was 13. I wouldn’t even go the pool with my friends because I was too embarrassed to wear a bathing suit. Since my surgery, I have a whole new lease on life. I am so much more confident and happy. I am very thankful to him and his staff for helping me overcome my body image issues. P.M.
Depending the degree of asymmetry, an implant may be used, but is not always necessary.
At the time of your consultation, you and leading Baltimore breast augmentation surgeon Dr. Basner will decide which procedures are best for you. At that time he will explain in the surgery in detail and show you where the incisions will be placed. For many, the incisions are very limited, for others they are similar to breast lift scars.
In some cases insurance may cover a breast reduction – even if it is only to one breast. In most cases, procedures related to breast asymmetry are considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance.
Your recovery will depend on the specific procedures you need, but in general, you can generally return to work within one week, provided there is no strenuous activity involved. We advise that any sexual activity be avoided for at least the first week. Any heavy lifting, straining, and overexertion should also be avoided. We will recommend when you can resume your normal activities, based on the extent of your surgery and your lifestyle. It may be six months before your breasts achieve their final shape.
