If you have a bust line that is larger than you would like you're probably familiar with the discomfort of back and neck pain and skin irritation. You may also suffer from breathing difficulties and skin indentations or discoloration from bra straps. Vigorous activities such as exercise can be uncomfortable, and you may likely feel very self-conscious about your figure.
Traditional breast reduction techniques give excellent results but generally require incisions on the breast that are bothersome to some women.
A new technique for breast reduction is now available that gives excellent results without requiring the incisions of a traditional breast reduction. Using a ¼ inch incision in the crease under the breast, excellent results can be obtained by liposuction alone. This technique is not right for everyone. Only a small lift of the breast will be achieved by this method. Those desiring a large lift will still prefer traditional techniques.

TESTIMONIAL: As a young, single woman the thought of scars on my breast scared me. As a dating woman I was very self- conscious about what my boyfriend would think. During my consultation with Dr. Basner, I learned of this new breast reduction technique that involved only liposuction. I was amazed that there was a procedure that could give me similar results to the traditional breast reduction with no incisions. My results are fantastic! I would recommend that every women look into this technique. I couldn’t be happier with my decision and results. – A.S.
Below are some frequently asked questions about breast reduction by liposuction alone. These are designed only to provide you with general information regarding this procedure. We will provide you with extensive information during your complimentary consultation in our Baltimore office. Any further questions or concerns may also be addressed at that time.
The consultation with Dr. Basner will answer this question. It depends upon how much of a lift you desire and the density of the breast tissue. It is typically best for women whose breast have not dropped significantly.
It will depend on the type of policy you have as well as the amount of reduction you need. Certain plans may cover breast reduction based on certain health problems. We will be happy to review coverage with your insurance provider during your initial consultation.
You may feel some pain for the first day or two, especially when you move around or cough, as well as some discomfort for a week or more. Medication will be prescribed to lessen the pain. Bandages will be removed a day or two after surgery, and a surgical bra will be necessary for several weeks, until the swelling and bruising subside. Your first menstrual period following the surgery may cause your breasts to swell and hurt. You may have some loss of feeling in your nipples and breast skin, caused by post surgical inflammation. This generally improves over the next six weeks or so, but may last longer. You can generally return to work within one week, provided there is no strenuous activity involved. We advise that any sexual activity be avoided for at least the first week. Any heavy lifting, straining, and overexertion should also be avoided. We will recommend when you can resume your normal activities, based on the extent of your surgery and your lifestyle. It may be six months before your breasts achieve their final shape.
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved, such as infection or bleeding. Permanent numbness in the breast or areola is also possible. You may also experience fluctuations in size due to hormonal changes, weight gain or loss, or pregnancy. A small percentage of patients are unable to breast feed following surgery. However, complications are rare.
The doctor will make every effort to ensure that your scars are as inconspicuous as possible. There will only be a ¼ inch incision in the crease under the breast. But they will gradually become less obvious, and can eventually fade away.
