There are several different types of skin cancer. Your procedure will vary according to the type, extent, and severity of cancer. No matter how extensive your surgery may be, our goal is to remove the cancer completely, while saving the surrounding healthy tissue.

The most common symptoms include spots or moles that have changed in appearance, color, or size. If they are larger than a pencil eraser, bleed, have irregular or raised borders, or are asymmetrical, this can also indicate skin cancer. If you notice any of these symptoms, please call your dermatologist. If your dermatologist determines you should have lesion removed, call our office and schedule an appointment with Dr. Basner. Dr. Basner will determine the appropriate procedure to remove the lesion and we will schedule an appointment for your excision.
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved such as infection or bleeding. Most patients will experience numbness in the area for several months. Any bleeding that occurs will generally be absorbed by your body in time. Additional procedures may need to be performed if any diseased tissue remains.
Skin cancer cannot be completely removed without leaving a scar. We understand your concerns with appearance. However, our most important goal is to ensure the complete removal of the skin cancer. Your life is our greatest concern. However, we will make every effort to hide resulting scars within your body's natural contours.
Every age and race is susceptible to skin cancer. However, those who are fair-skinned and/or fair-haired, spend a great deal of time exposed to sunlight, freckle easily, and have a large number of moles are at higher risk.
