Vertical banding, horizontal creases, fatty jowls and the dreaded “turkey-wattle” all work together to make us look much older before our time. A neck lift with Baltimore plastic surgeon Dr. Adam Basner tightens the skin and the underlying muscles to lift the neck as well as improve and sharpen the contour of the jaw line. All the incisions are hidden behind the ear and under the chin so they are not visible to others.
Many patients have been told that a neck lift must be done with a facelift. This is not true. A neck lift can easily be done by itself and will provide excellent results. In fact, many people, especially men, request a neck lift without a facelift. If this procedure interests you, please contact Dr. Basner’s office at (410) 616-3000 for a complimentary consultation.

The best candidates for neck lift are patients who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their neck due to jowls, a double chin, turkey wattle or any other concern. The ideal patient will have realistic expectations regarding what the neck lift can accomplish. During your initial consultation, Dr. Basner will review your medical history, examine your neck skin and anatomy, and discuss your goals for surgery. Based on his assessment, he will determine whether the neck lift procedure is appropriate for you. Â
Neck lift is performed by Dr. Basner as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. The procedure can range from two to several hours to complete. First, Dr. Basner makes incisions behind the ears and under the chin. Next, he trims the excess skin and, in some cases, removes or rearranges underlying muscles to eliminate banding. Finally, he closes the incisions with sutures.
As with any surgery, neck lift is associated with some risks, including infection and bleeding. However, when performed by Dr. Basner, the neck lift procedure rarely results in complications. Most of Dr. Basner’s neck lift Baltimore patients experience impressive results, with a smooth, firm neck appearance following surgery.
Because incisions are made behind the ears and under the chin, neck lift scars are usually undetectable to others.
Following surgery, your head and neck will be wrapped in elastic bandages. You will experience some bruising and swelling, which may last as long as 10 days. Dr. Basner will prescribe medication to ease your discomfort and help prevent infection. His office will supply you with detailed instructions to follow to aid the healing process and minimize visible scars.
