I Want To Get Rid Of My Man Boobs – Part 2

Plastic Surgeon serving Lutherville Timonium, Baltimore & Columbia areas of Maryland

As covered in Part 1 of this series, the condition called Gynecomastia or more commonly called, ‘man boobs’, is where some men have enlarged breasts. This can be caused by several factors, but the main source that causes this is high levels of estrogen, a female hormone.

While this can be corrected by diet and exercise, that is a long process and may take up to a year or more for you to see the results. A quicker way to correct this condition is to undergo a Gynecomastia procedure. In this second part of ‘I Want To Get Rid Of My Man Boobs’, we will cover the pros and cons of having this procedure performed.

Con Number 1

You can expect some soreness the first few days. Most patients will return to work within a week of surgery while wearing a compression vest under your clothing the first two weeks or so. Complete recovery can take up to six weeks.

Con Number 2

You will need to refrain from any physical activity, such as sports, for a short time. Lifting, bending and any kind of stress on the upper body will need to be avoided.

Con Number 3

You will see results within two to three months with the complete desired results in about six months. However, if you return to your old ways of living, you could find yourself with man boobs again.

Con Number 4

Any type of surgery is at risk for bleeding or infection and a gynecomastia procedure is no different. Fluid collection may develop under the skin that will need to be drained is another risk. Rarely, there are problems with the wound healing.

Con Number 5

In most cases, a Gynecomastia procedure is not covered by insurance.

Pro Number 1

The first pro is obvious in that the procedure will give you more confidence and self-esteem. After recovery, there is no more embarrassment taking your shirt off at the beach, the pool or in intimate situations.

Pro Number 2

There is little to no scarring to give any indication you have had this procedure done. Any scar is usually very tiny and under the arm. The scars will be red for awhile, but the incisions heal quickly and become unnoticeable quickly.

Pro Number 3

There is no pre-requisite to lose weight prior to a Gynecomastia procedure. For a man that is in shape every part of his body except his chest area, this can be a great relief.

Pro Number 4

The procedure is usually done on an out patient basis and you are home the same day if no complications arise.

If you are one of those men that have been cursed with man boobs, feel assured there is a way to cure this today. It is relatively safe, very few risks and the results are quick. Do your research, interview surgeons and ask questions. Ask each surgeon you interview for patient referrals that have had Gynecomastia procedure performed and for before and after pictures.

Once you have done all this and understand there are pros, cons and your willing to accept any risks, then you may be ready to get rid of your man boobs.
