Recent statistics show liposuction is an increasingly common cosmetic procedure. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, liposuction was the second most popular procedure in the US in 2015, second only to breast augmentation.
So, is 2017 the year you say "yes" to liposuction? Perhaps you've been considering it for a while. Maybe you've already had a consultation with a plastic surgeon. At the Baltimore practice of Dr. Adam Basner, Dr. Basner recommends only those procedures he knows will be a great fit for your goals. Call us today to schedule an evaluation with him.
Below are a few things you may be thinking about, if you are trying to decide if it's the right time for liposuction.
Your Ideal Weight
Liposuction is often a great option for people who want to refine their bodies after getting fit. Even when you lose weight and get in shape, you may notice pockets of stubborn fat. Liposuction is perfect for removing these pesky lumps and bumps. So, have you reached your ideal weight or do you plan to lose a lot more in the year ahead? You will want to time your liposuction for when you have reached your ideal weight, so that as much of the fat as possible has shrunk, allowing the surgery to be a final refinement measure.
How Long Your Recovery Will Be
You'll want to plan your liposuction when you have some time off. The entire recovery can take several weeks, but you should be able to go back to work after a week. You will need to take a few weeks off from strenuous exercise, and arrange to have help with any obligations such as getting children to and from school, housework, carpooling, etc., in addition to taking time off from work.
To accommodate flexibility with their schedules, some people schedule liposuction during a summer vacation or at a point in the summer when their kids don't need to get to as many activities as in the school year.
When You Will See Results
You will first notice results after about a week, once a significant amount of swelling subsides. But you will continue to notice greater improvement as the weeks go by, and possibly for several months, at which point all of the swelling should be gone.
How Much It Will Cost
The cost of the procedure varies. At Dr. Basner's practice, the average cost of liposuction starts at $3,900, and may increase based on the volume of fat to be removed and the size of the treatment areas. After your consultation where you will discuss your options with Dr. Basner, our experienced staff will present you with a cost estimate for any recommended procedures.
