According to recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, tummy tuck surgery was the number 5 most-performed procedure in the US last year, a standing that had been occupied by facelifts since the year 2000. ASPS says 127,967 tummy tuck procedures were performed in 2015, which is 9 percent growth from 2014. Tummy tuck surgery has risen 104 percent since the year 2000.
Facelifts were not far behind tummy tucks, with 125,711 performed last year, down 2 percent from 2014. It is possible that a procedure like a facelift has become less widespread because of the wide variety of non-surgical facial rejuvenation options available today. There were 14.2 million of these minimally invasive cosmetic procedures performed in 2015, including BOTOX®, chemical peels and soft-tissue fillers.
Statistics alone don't explain why tummy tucks grew so substantially in 2015. Perhaps a trend toward healthy living has resulted in high rates of massive weight loss and more American adults with sagging, excess skin around the midriff that they want to eliminate with a tummy tuck.
